Subject: The day the Gospel went global
Dear Rafé,
Did you know that this Sunday is Pentecost?
Depending on your church tradition, it can be one of those church holidays that totally sneaks up on you.
Here it is in a nutshell: 50 days after Easter, the Spirit shows up, flames are involved, and people are suddenly speaking a bunch of different languages.
It’s a little confusing if you’re new to the story.
Thankfully, our friends at The Bible Project explain it way better than we ever could. (Scroll to the bottom for an excellent Pentecost education.)
Now, you might be wondering, Why in the world is Come and See emailing me about Pentecost?Here’s why.
The celebration of Pentecost is based on a world-changing event that happened to the early church in Acts 2. It’s about people hearing the Good News in their own language. Once that happened, there was no going back.
Pentecost marks the moment the Gospel crossed language barriers for the very first time. And that gets us REALLY excited.
At Come and See, we’re passionate about people encountering the story of Jesus in their heart language: the language in which they speak, dream, and pray.
So, yes; Pentecost is very much our thing.
This Pentecost Sunday, we’re inviting friends like you to help break down even more language barriers. To cross cultures and continents with the story of Jesus.
We’re not setting a goal. We’re just gathering friends, praying boldly, and watching what God will do.
Would you spend a few moments over the next couple of days praying for those who still haven’t heard the story of the true, authentic Jesus in their own language? That whatever barriers remain, the Spirit would break through?
