Fwd: Explore Role Play for Treating Trauma
Dear Friend,
We're pleased to invite you to an exciting upcoming event, The Body Speaks with some of the trauma field's top experts. This series of discussions will focus on how to utilize role play as an effective intervention for treating trauma. This exciting 5-session program will offer new perspectives on how we can bridge the gap between embodied forms of therapy and talk therapy.
In each session, host Tian Dayton will welcome a new thought leader to the conversation to share their ideas through comparing and contrasting well honed theories and treatment approaches.
The program will present perspectives from:
April 25th: Bessel van der Kolk, pioneer clinician, researcher and teacher in the area of posttraumatic stress and author of the New York Times Science best seller, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Treatment of Trauma and Licia Sky, CEO & co-founder of the Trauma Research Foundation and Embodied Awareness Facilitator, artist, singer-songwriter, and bodyworker
April 27th: Stephen Porges, Distinguished University Scientist at Indiana University where he is the founding director of the Traumatic Stress Research Consortium and author of The Polyvagal Theory: Neurophysiological foundations of Emotions, Attachment, Communication, and Self-regulation
April 29th: Peter Levine, developer of Somatic Experiencing® (SE), a naturalistic body-awareness approach to healing trauma and the founder of the Foundation for Human Enrichment and author of In an Unspoken Voice: How the Body Releases Trauma and Restores Goodness
May 2nd: Ed Tronick, University Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of Massachusetts Boston, director of the Child Development Unit, a research associate in Newborn Medicine, a lecturer at Harvard Medical School, an associate professor at both the Graduate School of Education and the School of Public Health at Harvard and co-author of The Power of Discord: Why the Ups and Downs of Relationships Are the Secret to Building Intimacy, Resilience, and Trust
