Our beliefs, our institutions, and our systems are all rooted in stories.

The concepts of human rights, law, economics, statehood, rely on our collective agreement that they're true and important. It's time we recognized the power of our collective imagination — our power to reshape societies using our capacity to imagine new worlds into existence.

Today, we face a crisis of imagination.

We can't imagine a world without capitalism. Without the commodification of nearly every facet of our lives. It's not that we lack the facts to convince us of the errors of these structures. It's that we haven't been able to see something beyond them.

We are in dire need of new stories.

To move forward, we must pour our energy into imagining new worlds. A world where our food system is designed to feed people, not accumulate capital. Where we commune with Earth, not extract from it. One where those who grow our food are valued, not exploited.

We see food sovereignty as a story that can unite us in radical re-imagination.

Through storytelling, building collective understanding, and driving resources to peasant and Indigenous groups actively leading us to food sovereignty, we move closer towards this radical vision.
A Growing Culture was founded to celebrate the culture in agriculture — to center the peasant and Indigenous voices who are actively reimagining our food system.

The missing piece is not more data to prove what farming practices feed the world.
The missing piece is our ability to see how interconnected we all are.
How our liberation is tied to those growing food thousands of miles away.

Food sovereignty is a movement rooted in that interconnection.
Our storytelling centers the root causes of injustice in our food system and invites wider audiences to recognize our shared struggle for liberation.

Our platforms and our stories are always open-source, to be shared and circulated for the growth of the food sovereignty movement.

You can easily access these stories through our Food Sovereignty 101 guide.

We believe that knowledge should not be gate-kept, so we offer all of our work for free. Because of this, we depend on your support to keep telling these stories. If you believe that another world is possible, support us.

Fwd: How can we find solutions? Thomas Hübl News

Dear DawnXena,
No single person alone knows the answer to today's pressing questions, but together we can BECOME the answer. This happens as we each embrace our own role in life as fully as possible, and join together in healing communities where these potentials can come to fruition. Here we can feel the power of the collective answer flowing through each of us. This is the planetary immune system at work, bringing forth a global innovative force.
In this sense, we wish you a wonderful end of this year with lots of light and inspiration!
Warmly,
Thomas Hübl, with regards from the entire team

How to stay in relation through disagreement
Thomas Hübl Video
Across the world, rifts are showing in families, circles of friends, work teams, and more. There are polarized views on political and social issues that seem unbridgeable. The pandemic is one of them, as is the issue of climate change. Here is what Thomas says about it:Check in on your experience, how close or how distant do you feel to a group of people, or to one person you don't agree with? We can have a strong disagreement with somebody and still be in relation. Contrasting viewpoints do not mean that I have to disconnect from the experience of the other. Re-traumatization happens in the disconnect from the experience, not in the disagreement of how we see life.
It is not WHAT we talk about that is painful, it is HOW we talk with each other. The relational experience is a key factor in data transfer, and relation is a data connection. If I talk to somebody from a distance how can I expect that the person will listen to me when I don't even feel her or him? But if I am able to be with somebody that I disagree with in a kind of closeness, then whatever I bring in the room has at least the highest potential of alchemical power."Watch the short 6-minute video >>

3. The Pocket Project at COP26 Climate Conference
PP on COP26
Kosha Joubert and Anne Vollborn from the Pocket Project were on the ground at the UN Climate Change Conference COP26 in Glasgow! From November 1 to 12, they raised the concern that the aspect of healing collective trauma must be included so that stable solutions to the acute challenges can be developed. The Pocket Project is committed to restoring our collective ability to relate to the world, thus enabling a fuller expression of our unique contributions. Kosha and Anne achieved amazing things - supported by a huge team in the back and in the foreground! In up to four daily live broadcasts, they opened the space and built a bridge between the conference and the outside, as some of you have also followed. Our presence at the Climate Change Conference has transformed us. The immediacy and vitality of being there as a global community, bringing our hearts, minds and bodies present to the climate crisis, embedding ourselves in interbeing and belonging was painful, beautiful, extraordinary."Many of the live talks and events have been recorded and are publicly visible. Among them are conversations with Thomas Hübl, Charles Eisenstein, Pat McCabe, Karen O'Brian, William Ury, and many others! See here and get a vivid impression of the processes in Glasgow >>Would you like to contribute to keep the Pocket Project going like this? Then we would be very happy about a donation from you!

Fwd: TREND: A Wave of Scent Innovation Fueled by the Pandemic

TREND: A Wave of Scent Innovation Fueled by the Pandemic

Fragrance is being developed and applied for wellbeing in dramatically new ways

Back in 2019, one of our key trends was how fragrance was getting a wellness makeover. With a new understanding of scent's role in our mental and physical health, there was a new wave of functional fragrances and scent-for-wellbeing applications starting to rise.

The pandemic has kicked research into how scent impacts human health–and innovations in how scent can be deployed for wellbeing–into higher gear.

Several forces are at play. Study after study shows how profoundly scent is linked to emotion, and with global depression and anxiety crises, more companies developed–and more people snapped up–fragrance products designed to improve their mental wellbeing in the search for some at-home self-care.
As CB Insights reported, if perfume sales were down in 2020, sales of aromatherapy and home fragrance products reached record levels last year. For instance, sales of incense rose during the pandemic, with new products that are a far cry from the '70s patchouli fogs: sophisticated creations with natural ingredients and old-world craftsmanship.

What Can Covid-19 Teach Us About the Mysteries of Smell?–The New York Times

COVID-19's strangest symptom–losing one's sense of smell–has opened up new doors to understanding our most neglected sense. If you want to understand our long cultural history that has denigrated the importance of the sense of smell and the mounting research on how smell is a "startling" and complex superpower–read this article! It covers so much: from how the human smell system involves 400 receptors that can detect as many as a trillion smells; how unlike sight, which needs to pass through various parts of our brains to reach our memory or emotion centers, smell has a uniquely direct pathway; and how our olfactory receptors are even closely tied to our immune systems, alerting tissues when there are pathogens nearby.

Functional Fragrance: Scent Is Being Elevated as a Channel for Health & Wellbeing–Wunderman Thompson

The pandemic has brought a heightened focus on the link between olfaction and wellbeing. Doctors are prescribing smell training("physical therapy for your nose") to COVID-19 patients experiencing a loss of smell. Brands are harnessing functional fragrance to lift our moods and reduce our anxiety. For instance, Rochas' new scent "Girl" positions itself as the "first 100% feel-good perfume", a natural, vegan formula formulated to relax wearers.

These perfumes will make you more creative–Financial Times

For the last 40 years, perfume was all about sex and attraction, but innovators are reimagining scent's power in self-discovery, personal creativity, and expanding the mind and trying out new ideas. DS & Durga's fragrance encapsulates "all that we love in music, art, nature and design"; cult brand Escentric Molecules' "Beautiful Mind" series is inspired by dance and writing and Aesop's new perfume line "Othertopias" was specifically designed to incite dreaming.

The Power of Scent Technology for Enabling Immersive Wellness–Design Well

A look at how tech is now catching up with the power of scent. The future: technologies that can create immersive sensorial spaces and personal "wellness zones"–whether via TVs, home entertainment theaters, or other smart devices. For instance, Scentscape, from tech firm Hypnos Virtual(seeing some significant investment), uses AI to create "scent tracks" akin to a cinematic musical score–so it can trigger an endless array of mood-altering olfactory sensations.
